Which is upstream: MCCB or bus bars?
from main panel, the branching panels was designed to use plug on type MCB. currently installed with 6k rated mcb, type c. we need to change to type d, the only available is 10k up.

I don't know that I'm qualified to answer and I don't normally post where TMHS steps, but it seems to me that as long as you are installing a breaker with a greater AIC rating there would be no problem unless it alters some critical downstream numbers.
In simple terms it appears to me to be the same as replacing a 240v switch with a 600v on a 240 system but what do I know
