Hihat Installation

What is the proper way, according to the NEC, to install Hihat fixtures,such as Halo,in a suspended T-Bar ceiling in the basement. Is it OK for the Hihat to be suspended by the ceiling tile only?

Follow the manufacturer's instructions and refer to the building code for your jurisdiction. The NEC is mostly silent on this issue.

I don't beleive that's acceptable. There are hangers made specificly for T-Bar that clips to the framing.

410.16(C)......... Luminaires (fixtures) shall be securely fastened to the ceiling framing member...........

The hanger bars on most recessed lights are designed to sit on the ceiling grid. A sheet metal screw through the flange that you would normally nail onto a joist should do the trick.

The ceiling tile will sag over time.
