Hipot testing of cables

I have done alot of DC Hipot testing on high voltage cables and was always be taught that DC testing was the preferred method. Now I am seeing that AC Hipot testing is preferred over DC because over time Dc will break down the dielectic properties of the conductor. If anyone is familar with low frequency AC testing I would like their input. Thank you.

Ed. I just recieved my first issue EC&M. I am taking the state contractors test in June. What a great magazine. I have alot to learn and read and study whatever I can get a hold of.
