(Historic) Transmission structure with 8 conductors.

This was on the PPL Facebook page today, a picture from 1937 of a lineman patrolling on horseback. More interesting to me are the 8 conductors (plus 2 shield wires) on the structure.

What kind of circuit configuration is this?

2 phase system? Niagara Falls was 2 phase at one time. You can still find 2 phase service in Philadelphia inner city. I also heard in Boston as well.

Maybe HVDC circuits coming from Hoover Dam area? But I didn't think they were that old.

Where is that? That would tell us a lot about the possibilities.

(2-phase in Boston? I've never heard that one, must research....)

Sorry thought the PPL would make the location obvious. This is somewhere in eastern Pennsylvania.

Even growing up in Maryland, I have no idea where PPL is (it's always good to spell things out), but for that area, 2-phase is a real possibility.
