For what it's worth

For what it's worth

We have been on jobs with trades that had Hitachi cordless tools. We have "traded" with our Ridgid 18V cordless and find that if you stay within the 18V or higher bracket, Hitachi is OK. The thing I like about my 18V Ridgid, is that one of mine "burned up" recently. I went on-line, found an authorized repair center near me, called them, took my unit to them and informed them that I didn't have the receipt. No problem, numbers on unit solved my problem, they replaced the innards, two new updated batteries and a newer charger all at NO COST. To me, that is worth something. I do not know Hitachi's warranty policies, but Ridgid's is LIFETIME !!

I have had corded tools from hitachi and they have been good to me but very spendy when I first started using them now they are comparable in cost..I can offer nothing on their cordless just a thumbs up on there corded tools..As far as Ridgid goes they are lifetime warranty but they are big and heavy that is my complaint with them and their compact drill is the only tool in that arena as of now..I am into the makita tools they have batteries with 2000 charge garunteed that means you can charge battery everyday for 5years..They are are also a lot lighter then other models..My 2 cents..

I picked up a Hitachi 12-volt drill a year ago, based partly on Consumer Reports' recommendation. I think it was only about $80. I love it for shooting screws or drilling a few holes. The battery lasts a long time when driving screws. It is very lightweight. I almost always pick it up over my heavier Milwaukees unless the task calls for something heavier-duty. I'll probably check out the 18-volt stuff when it comes time to replace the Milwaukees.

I have a Hitachi 12 volt drill and falshlight combo. Probably about 5 years old. The flashlight bit the dust a while ago. The drill is the best I have ever owned overall. Not really used for drilling much but for screwing it's great especially for instealling devices and fumbling upside down with undercabinet lights. Very light weight and has a belt hook. Never had any trouble with it. Best 8o bucks I've ever spent on tools.

thanks

The small size and lite weight is why I was looking at this line. The other drills I have are great in the sitiuation that I need them, but looking for a "compact" strong drill. Thanks!

I have to agree with RKrieger...nver used Hitache but moved from Dewalt to Rigid about 3+ years ago and have had no problems since. As far as something for simple screw setting etc... I use Companion brand from Sears...cheap, small, adjustable clutch, good torque.
