The transformer for a temporary construction hoist Have to be placed next to the hoist? Or it can be 300feet from the hoist disconnect as long is a OP on the pri side and OP on the secondary side of the transformer.
Transforme 208 volt prim delta 277/480 Y sec

Lost me a little. Not sure this answers your question but the disconnect for the primary to the transformer can be at the source, any distance.
The secondary would have to comply with 240.21(C), and the hoist would need a disconnect in sight. (610.32)

(if there are seperate structures involved Art 225 would need to be addressed)

The owner of the hoist company wants to place his transformer next to the hoist because he said that is a code requirement!!!
We would like to install the transformer next to our temporal service that it is 300 feet from the hoist and then run a 480 volt feeder to supply the hoist.
Of course the OP on the primary side is going to be next to the transformer + the OP for the sec side next to the transformer too, and then a service DS next to the hoist!!!!

I don't see where it's a NEC Code requirement. Local or crane/hoist ordinances perhaps. Unless he's absorbing the cost difference I would want to see the rule or have some authority justify it.
