Has anyone ever been a Home Depot contractor or on their list of contractors they supply work to? If so, what are your experiences. If not, what have you heard.

From what I understand, they set the pay rate. If they tell you they'll pay you X dollars to install a ceiling fan, they could care less what you must do to install it.

So image getting to some little old lady's house, only to find you need to stage 3 levels of scaffold to reach her 24' ceiling. Then find out the box isn't fan rated.

HD won't care. You agreed to install the fan for $X.

I bought 14 matching fans for a church last week, Lowe's had a sign that said they would install them for $90. I thought about subbing them, as I had bid $200 each to install.

Home Depot

Let me enlighten you regarding Home Depot. I have been doing their electric installs for years and here is how they work. They do not set the price. Every day I get a list of their leads via the computer and it is up to me to estimate the jobs. They are very particular pertaining to licensing and insurance as well as dress codes. They call the majority of customers and check how the installation went. I can tell you I know alot of people use Home Depot because they have had bad experiances with electrical contractors. We hear and see it all the time. It took us over 3 years to finally get in with Home Depot and they have been very good to us. Prior to using us they had a national franchise doing their work and had alot of issues. I continued to keep in contact with them and, in the begining, they actually used me to fix the other guys installs. Just because someone works at something and suceeds is that wrong? I can tell you that all of our electricians are professionals, non smoking, no piercings, no drug/alcohol issues. They are in thousands of homes every year and the complaints are very few. We are the only contractor in the area that offers the forever guarentee which speaks for itself. In short, not that we are better than anyone else but we do run a tight ship. Regarding Lowe's, we did at one time work for them and they do set the price. That's one of the reasons we don't work for them anymore.
