I have a very good customer that is going to start doing his dialysis at home. All he knows about the machine is it needs a dedicated 20 amp circuit. Has anyone here hooked one up and if so was there anything odd about it? I am going to request the machine specs from the company in the AM.

Plan for a dedicated ckt and get a spec grade receptacle. Plan against any tripping from other loads. Do not backstab, use the screws. Most spec grade outlets have a quality speedwire clamp under the screw, they are great. Take extra care that your box is secure in the wall. Don't want it pulling out at a critical moment. Check out the specs too when you get them. It should have a standard male plug but you never know for sure. May have a twistlock, or may possibly come without cord and plug, in which case you have to install it. I use to see coffee makers in restaurants that were that way, a few other appliances here and there. Med eqpmt may or may not be that way.

I left out an important piece of info. The customer inquired about back up power for this unit. I have already roughed it in with 12-3 hospital grade MC and a 20 amp hospital grade receptacle (I have tons of both left from a job) I was trying to size and price a UPS for him. If the equipment specs will allow this of course

Good thinking. If longer than a UPS could do, maybe he needs a standby generator. You could set him up with a portable generator layout, but someone else would need to be always available to hook it up and get it cranked.
