hooking up carbon monoxide and smoke detectors on the same circuit

I was just wondering about hooking up CO and smoke detectors on the same dedicated circuit. I have done it but have read the 527 CMR fire regulations for MA.........I know you can have combo smoke/co kits but they make different warning tones...am I legally allowed to innterconnect to an existing ac powered smoke alarm(has 7 smokes connected in the household) and just tap off one and put a CO detector on...I mean I know if I do this if one goes off they are all going off including either the co or smoke which ever one is triggered. I would think they are both just as dangerous but I could see a homeowner dissconnecting or shutting off the breaker if their smokes go off and there is no fire but it is really carbon monoxide setting off the smoke alarms..which seems dangerous if it is legal. Any insight would help :)

I know what ya mean stick but they still make different sounds so you can tell because the are combo's...Am i right......if I had 7 interconnected smoke and one CO detector and they are not combos is that still legit that's what I'm trying to figure out.

Powering a unit and sending an alarm signal are 2 distinct and seperate functions. Providing you do not exceed the ampacity of the circuit it is OK to put all the units on the same circuit.

You have to read the directions that come from the manufacturers, I use Kidde detectors and the thing actually talks and tells you if its a fire or CO... pretty neat...
