Hospital cabling

I've been told that there is a new requirement that hospitals have to remove any old cabling instead of abandoning them in place.

Is this an NEC requirement?

Re: Hospital cabling

Are you referring to low voltage cabling?
Perhaps its the requirement that was added to the 2002 NEC nearly 3 years ago, that abandoned (almost all types of low voltage cabling per article...) shall not be permitted to remain. This is all the "low voltage articles".
There is an out, however, in a loophole to the requirement. The big question is who is responsible to remove it.
The type of occupancy does not matter. If you have a specific cable type I can post the appropiate code section.
