In a hospital we are monitering FSD position for the air handling system with a class 1 signal circuit from a DDC cabinet. We are picking up the open/closed signal from the aux contacts on the FSD. My question is does this system need to be in metalic raceway? NEC 725.31 B requires metalic raceway for physical protection where damage to the circuit could cause a safety hazard. I don't see a monitering circuit as a safety issue, any thoughts?

Just monitering position of the damper, position closed will light up a indicater light visible below damper in cieling. These moniters will not trigger AHU shutdowns, only the fire system will shutdown the AHU.
