Can the circuit breaker connecting the generator power to the Critical Branch ATS and the circuit breaker connecting generator power to the Equipment Branch be in the same switchboard vertical section?

I think the breaker supplying Life Safety branch needs to be separated per 700.10(B)(5).

I think it depends on if the critical and equipment branches article 700 loads or article 701 loads. But I'm not sure which they fall into.

So both the Critical and Equipment branches are article 701 loads?
Steve, the way I have always looked at it is Life Safety Branch = Article 700, Critical Branch = 700, and the Equipment Branch = 702

I would still think the Life Safety and Critical Branches must be fed from different verticle sections unless it is a facility with a smaller than 150KVA system.

Roger:

I searched NFPA 99. The definition of the Life Safety Branch clearly says it needs to be per article 700. But the definitions of the Critical and Emergency Branch don't say anything about which NEC article they fall under.

Now I'm having Dejavu. Sometimes I think I run across the same questions over and over, with just enough time between that I've forgotten the answer:)

It seems like one of the NFPA codes would make this clear. But mabye they are intentionally leaving it up to the AHJ's to decide what article the Critical and Emergency branches fall under.
