Can someone please explain to me the difference between hospital grade Bx and standard BX. I am on the jobsite and I can not find anyone here who knows for sure.

Hospital grade cable carries a redundant ground conductor.

"BX" (Type AC cable)utilizes the armoured sheath as an EGC because of the bonding strip(#18) contained withn the AC assembly.

"MC" does not contain this bonding strip, and as such, the jacket is not listed as an EGC.MC contains a seperate full sized and insulated EGC. There is an exception to this "general" rule...it must be labled as such. I have never seen this animal.

"Hospital Grade" list the jacket as an EGC as well as a full sized insulated EGC internally.

The basic difference is that so called hospital grade (actually type AC-HCFC) has a green equipment grounding conductor, standard BX (AC cable) doesn't. Celtic has had done a good job of outlining why you would need to use one over the other.
