I watched a fellow contractor hang his head as the inspector told him he would have to rip out all of the MC he installed in a patient care area and replace it with hospital grade. Acceptable and required.

Is not required anywhere. Is permissible in 517.13 applications as mentioned. Is acceptable for anywhere else you would use similar AC/MC cable.
