No, see definition of "Patient Bed Location" then read 517.18(B) and 517.19(B)(2)
Now the Yes part. Although not directly part of your installation, most newer equipment used in these areas are supplied with "Hospital Grade cord caps", these require HG receps.

Hbiss, the next time you see one read the info or tag on the cord assembly.
In short it says: "to insure grounding integrety this cord must be used with a HG receptacle".
This is off the top of my head and since I don't have one in front of me don't take it as being word for word.
This is a CYA issue as far as the manufacturer goes, but what can you do. :roll:

A hospital grade receptacle has a specific grounding locking configuration. The matching cord cap is required to complete the grounding as designed. The system is 20 amps.
A hospital grade receptacle is a normal receptacle when used with common cord caps.

Got my attention. Have a project where the engineer specified hospital grade for general use. Called Leviton, they say that a Nema configuration is a Nema configuration. The plugs are the same, except you can get them in a transparent case and this was the original intention. The receptacles have heavier spring clips and nickel plated and would push in harder.

Nvcape, many of the hospitals we work in use HG receptacles exclusively, even in maitenance areas, coffee pots, or exterior areas.
When HG is purchased in quantities of a few hundred to 1000 there is very little difference in price between Industrial grade, and it is one less item the facility has to stock.
Yes the configurations are the same although as you state there is different performance standards.
There is a HG twist lock device also.
Here is a 15 amp HG male cord cap.

We use a Hubbell hospital grade tamper proof receptacle (517.18(C)) for one of our retail customers, they spec. it for all outlets in reach of children.
I also used them in a daycare center by choice.
Hospital grade works fine, just a little harder to push the plug in.
