Are hospital grade receptacles required ONLY at patient bed locations or are they also required in other areas of health care facilities?

Thanks.

Re: Hospital grade receptacles

NEC Section 517.19(2) states the recpetacles required in 517.19(B)(1) shall be hospital grade.

Re: Hospital grade receptacles

Sorry. What I meant to ask are hospital grade receptacles required at any other locations other than patient care areas?

Re: Hospital grade receptacles

Only at patient bed locations. But the definition of a "Patient Bed Location" is fairly expansive for critical care, and most hospitals nowadays offer so much care - some of it very extensive - on an outpatient basis, that the rules are shifting. Also, nearly every hospital I do work at, wants hospital grade receptacles for every receptacle in the facility, regardless of use, even in store rooms & offices. Hospital grade receptacles are among the most durable available, and the maintenance personnel are stretched thin enough as it is. They have to test every receptacle used for patient care on an annual basis, so the fewer receptacles that need to be replaced throughout the facility, the better.

They are not required at all "patient care areas", a "patient care area" is not always a "patient bed location".

Re: Hospital grade receptacles

So they are required only at patient bed locations?

Re: Hospital grade receptacles

Jerry, along with what has already been pointed out you need to read 517.18(B) and 517.19(B)(2).
