in Table 220.42 "Lighting Load Demand Factor" for Hospital is given as 40% & 20% while in the bottom of the table it is written that the demand factor given in the table cannot be used in hospital areas where the entire lighting is likely to be used at one time. So for which areas of hospital we can use this demand factor?? Most of the areas in hospital will work for more than 3hr continuously (definition of continuous load). Also From my previous experience i use the demand factor for lighting as unity (1).

Thanks to all in advance

Sajid

As a practical matter, not all of the lights in patient bed areas are on full all of the time. Some will be off during the day, some will be off at different times at night. Same with individual lavatory lights.
Corridor lights and nursing station lights would be examples of lights that are on continuously.

As per my experience in hospitals demand factor shall be taken only for very few type of rooms which rarely to be used or occupied such stores, cleaning room, electrical and mechanical rooms put other than this the min demand factor we can apply is 0.9.

Yes there are areas in hospital as stated by Abdel Rahman Mohammad and Mr. GoldDigger where we can apply low demand factor. I think In case of patient rooms the demand factor of 40% is a at higher side.

Will appreciate other comments.
