Question:
  • Do I need a separate circuit for a patient room bathroom GFCI receptacle, because of hair dryer use? Or is this rule just for residential purposes? Reason I’m asking is because I have never done this before in my designs. And he hired a senior electrical engineer who insists that we need to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the space is not considered a 'Dwelling Unit' then your senior engineer is wrong see 210.11(C)(3) . If you talking about those permanent wall mounted hair dryers like in hotels then maby depending on the nameplate, see 210.23(A)(2)
