Are the only receptacles required in general care patient rooms the ones listed in 517? Trying to figure out if I can remove a receptacle by a doorway. I can't find anything in nfpa 70 or 99 that says anything about every six feet or anything along those lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The distance requirement that you are referencing 210.52 (A) (1) is for dwellings only.

Agreed. Only 210 required receptacles in other than dwellings is guest rooms and suites and is similar to dwelling requirements, show windows, and receptacles for servicing heating and air conditioning equipment. Outside of those items 517 is only thing governing required receptacles in a hospital patient room.

Your state may require you to apply FGI guidelines which have their own receptacle requirements. For example, they don't require a receptacle every 6 feet but they do require a receptacle not just at the bed but at every other wall.
