I just the finished the electrical install for a brand new hot tub. 60 amp circuit with a 60 amp QO GFCI breaker at the disconnect. I put my meter on the conductors before I connected it to the hot tub. I couldn’t apply power until after the unit was filled and had other steps were done. The GC called me to say that the breaker trips as soon as it’s turned on. Because I couldn’t get to the job the GC (whom I have a great relationship with) disconnected the wires from the hot tub and turned the breaker on - it didn’t trip. But as soon as he reterminated the wires at the hot tub panel and flipped the breaker it tripped right away.
I’m not sure if it’s the breakers regular mechanism or the GFCI portion of the breaker that’s tripping. I want to rule out any potential mistakes on my end. The fact that the breaker holds when not connected to the hot tub leads me to believe the fault is with the hot tub itself. Is there anything I’m missing?
