Hi...
I'm going to be wiring an exterior hot tub. I'm thinking about using one of those AC 2 pole pull out disconnects,
https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-60-Amp-240-Volt-Non-Fuse-Metallic-AC-Disconnect-TFN60RCP/100674085
but I'm not seeing a place to install a neutral block (guess I could splice it,but?) and the wire rating for the lugs looks like it goes 14-8 ( I will be using 6's I think... I think the tub which hasn't been ordered yet might be a 50 amp but if it's 60 then I would need the 6's or if I'm running romex.).. I haven't seen the job yet and the owner wants it all ready for when he gets the tub which he hasn't ordered yet.. But this has me thinking.. I've only hooked up a couple over the years, and can't remember if a disconnect with breaker was supplied with one or what I used.

Which non fused disconnect enclosures do you recommend for a hot tub? I'm thinking I may have to get a disconnect that accepts a breaker to get a neutral bar.??

thank you

Lowes and Home Depot both have WP disconnects with a gfci cheaper than I can buy the actual breaker. I would use their box and use a regular breaker at the panel

Many Hot Tubs require 2 separate circuits (2-p 30 & 2-p 20). I would not install anything before the tub specs are known.

I agree.............And I was just coming back to ask about that. You tubing I see some tubs being fed with one two poles say 50 amp circuit and some have an additional single pole also feeding it.... extra pumps???

Jersey, agree with the GFCI/disco suggestion. They come with an insulated neutral bus you shouldn't bond, and you might need a separate 2-terminal EGC bus.

Tell the customer you must have the instructions for the tub they buy to be able to have the wiring prepared before it arrives.

Also agree on the spa disconnect w/GFCI breaker. I seldom wire for a tub that isn't there yet, too many variables. Plus, some spa dealers won't hook them up. OP, make sure you either charge up front for a trip back to connect it or let them know it will be extra to come back.

Totally agree. Need a disco anyway. Need a GFCI spa breaker anyway. And it's so much easier to put a standard breaker in most existing panels and use the pre-fabbed GFCI disco near the tub. Having it with a neutral bar is just a bonus.

Curious mind would like to know.

A high end job MBrooke, one where the tub ,decking and landscape around it costs as much as an average house. Think interior /exterior designers, archy's , dedicated trades like 'sound system' & 'drapery' guys, etc...

There was no way they were going to allow some grey pullout disco introduced into their design.....so a small E-stop w/in sight (50' or less) flew ,made it thru a contactor >>

680.41 Emergency Switch for Spas and Hot Tubs. A clearly

stopping the motor(s)

system and jet system shall be installed at a point readily acces‐
sible to the users and not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) away, adjacent
to, and within sight of the spa or hot tub. This requirement
shall not apply to one-family dwellings.

Shunt trip breaker? I have to say thats a really neat way of doing it for a home that would have no crossed my mind.
