I did a search for this one and came up empty handed so sorry if it's old hat. We just roughed in a porch that will have a hot tub. We ran an 8/3 feeder to it and something told me the disconnect had to be in sight not less than five but not more than ten feet away. Out with the Red Book and couldn't find that particular rule. I know on single family dwellings a emergency stop is not needed but I thought that the disconnect had to be in sight, not say installed under the tub surround. Wouldn't that fall under 430?

680.41 talks about this, readily accessible to use users and within sight. I think I would go with #6. We talked about this in another thread, if you want to check it out.

680.41 I found however the last sentence says:
"This requirement shall not apply to single-family dwellings."
And also deals with "stopping the motors that provide power to the recirculation system...". So this is not a disconnect but an emergency stop button. Also why #6 if my combined load is 32 amps?

If this is a single family dwelling within sight is defined as no more than 50'.

Check. So within sight for sure then. Not under the surround. Code Ref for that? 430.102A I guess.
