Question my wife's parents had a Hot tub installed about 5 or 6 years ago. They have one of those GFCI disconnects with the build in alarm. Well at the end of the summer her father had drained out his hot tube and cleaned it out. Now when he filled it again and turned the hot tube back on the disconnect now hums kinda loud. No clue why any ideas?

Sorry.... couldn't resist. Besides, someone's gonna say it.

Have you tried turning the breakers off & on several times? Does it hum all the time, or only when the motor in the unit runs?

Did you look at the breaker, sounds like the jelly for the breaker clips is gone. Did you inspect the breaker, if theres powder on the breaker than it's drawning the enviroment to it, it will just be touching at a point but a full contact, a full side to side of this breaker is desired, other-wise and probably pronounced you will see it as to a single touch point to the breaker.... if that...

You sure it's not the motor humming? If it is the disco then there must be a contactor in there, as others have mentioned.

Is it the kind with the contactor inside? Might be the contactor humming from a little film of rust on the magnet faces.

I never liked that unit because it has too many points of failure. I think I'll just stick with the plain old GFCI breaker/disconnect box.

Right here.

I think the reason that one is favored is because it's pretty universal, no matter what size hot tub you have. I've put in a good many, and can't really think of any off the top of my head that I've ever had a callback on. It's also got a ton of room inside the wrangle the conductors into place. The 70A weatherproof disco's are pretty cozy inside once you get a GFCI breaker shoe-horned in them.
