Hot Tub Install

I'm installing an outdoor hot tub where there is presently an AC condenser. The condenser is going to be moved a few feet to make room for the hot tub.

I know the disconnect for the hot tub must be installed at least 5' from the inside wall of the tub. Does this 5' restriction also apply to the condenser disconnect? It only makes sense that it does but I don't see anything in 680 that tells me that.

I am also wondering what else has a setback from the tub. I believe any receptacles have to be 6' away. What about conduits and junction boxes? I'd like to change the ac disconnect to a junction box and extend it to the new disconnect location but that would make both the job and the conduit within 5' of the tub. My gut tells me this is ok but I'm looking for conformation.

I believe the a/c disconnect can be within 5' even though that makes no sense. You would have to bond the disconnect

(7) Fixed Metal Parts. All fixed metal parts shall be bonded
including, but not limited to, metal-sheathed cables and raceways,
metal piping, metal awnings, metal fences, and metal
door and window frames.
Exception No. 1: Those separated from the pool by a
permanent barrier that prevents contact by a person shall
not be required to be bonded.
Exception No. 2: Those greater than 1.5 m (5 ft) horizontally
from the inside walls of the pool shall not be required
to be bonded.
Exception No. 3: Those greater than 3.7 m (12 ft) measured
vertically above the maximum water level of the pool,
or as measured vertically above any observation stands,
towers, or platforms, or any diving structures, shall not be
required to be bonded.

Thanks Dennis. Since I have to extend the ac circuit to the new location I will change the disco to a pvc junction box and put the disconnect more than five feet from the tub. It just doesn't seem right having a disconnect within easy reach from the tub.

I take that I can have the condenser less than 5' as long as it gets bonded to the tub? Seems they will already bebonded by way of the EGC included in the circuit wiring for each?

You're welcome.

The equipment grounding conductor bonding is not sufficient as a #8 will be required and they want it connected to the pool system bonding so that everything is at the same potential. Seems odd to add current to something like a downspout that in turn will energize a roof if there is a metal roof....
