Hi,

I wired a hot tub the other day and I saw that they had some 120 volt string lighting running less than 5' above it. I thought for sure it would be a code violation but when looking through my 2017 NEC all I found is it would be a code violation it it was a pool. Is this right, or am I overlooking something? It seems like a hazard to me. The outside receptacle is GFCI protected and more than 5' away from the edge of the hot tub.

But wait you did say existing. Well it would have to be rigidly attached. It's my understanding 680.22 is for pools and spas, hot tubs as stated in 680.1

680.42 states that Parts I and II also to apply to hot tubs or spas except as permited in 680.42(A) and (B) that would otherwise apply to pools installed outdoors. That statement make application of 680.22 in play as well as 680.9 for hot tubs and spas
