hot tub on grass

A cowworker asked me the other day if a hot tub could be installed on grass? He says that a friend of his poured the pad but didnt include any metal,rebar or copper. This would make it impossible to meet bonding requirements without breaking out the jackhammer. So to remedy this he asked me if it would be ok to install it on grass or sand and use the pad as a sitting area. I told him that as long as the manufacurer is ok with this type of instalation i cant find anything against it. Am i missing anything?

Bond the slab under a wooden/fiberglass tub? Is there a code for this?

You might check with your inspector also. That part of the code is uneeded in my opinion.

Cover the slab with wood or Trex decking. Put the hot tub on top of it.

680.42 tells us to follow Parts I & II of 680.

That includes 680.26(C).


That said I agree with Trever, cover the slab with a non-conductive deck.

Thanks for you responses guys. I have a pretty good grasp of art 680 it was just when my buddy asked me about putting it on the grass that kind of made me scratch my head.
