Hello this is my first post here. I've wanted to get back into learning NEC code with study and practice as it's been a few years since college on the subject. I hope not to lose what I gained and look forward to learning more by joining the forms.

So I've been wanting a hot tub and figured I could file a permit and do it myself. It's also a good excuse to review and learn more about electrical code.

Scenario:

  1. Main Panel on other side of the house, So I am poking hole and running conduit all the way around to where I want my hot tub. It's about 100 ft all around the house.
  2. Hot tub has different ampacity settings and has jumpers on control board to set it. Going with 50 Amp setting. It states 3 wire connection so I need two 6 awg hots and a 10 awg ground. Could use 3/4 but going with 1 inch sch 40 as I already have that and give me more room for options later maybe.
  3. There are 3 problems that I would like help addressing and where I can find it in the code if applicable.
    1. There is a gutter on one corner of the house. This has me stumped as I'm not sure what an electrician would do in this situation. Can I run conduit over a rain gutter? This is kinda a two parter as I was thinking I would use a Flex elbow fitting or those transition fittings to transition from PVC Sch 40 to Liquid Tight and just go around it. But from what I read those Conduit transition fittings aren't really code and only AHJ approval? If that's the case then would just an LB and an offset would work right? If anything could I just also cut and add an offset to my gutter and go over the conduit instead?
    2. I'm looking in my book (NEC 2017) and am reading over Article 680 for the hot tub that I need a disconnect within sight and no less than 5 feet from the inside wall of the body of water. (680.13). So in the photo I measure it out and where I place it is about 5 feet but Now I have a problem. There is this disconnect and the air conditioner for the house is right where I could put my disconnect. I cant remember from school about panel and equipment clearances. 680.6 (2) says all electrical equipment located within 5ft of the water must be grounded which it is so I guess it’s okay for it to be close by. The disconnect itself tho… 110.26(2) says I need 30 inches working space. I can kind of barely kick the A/C unit itself over away from it’s own disconnect to give me 30 inches. But I’m not sure it’ll fly. Is there anything about installing disconnects next to other disconnect of separate branch circuits I need to worry about. I would love to hear your guys thoughts on my project.
