hot tub wiring

In wiring an outdoor hot tub, I know a GFCI is required in the circuit. My question is the following: To be within code requirements, can the GFCI be located in the main breaker box in the basement (on a dedicated circuit of course), and a disconnect switch installed on the outside of the house in close proximity of the hot tub? Or, must the GFCI itself be located on the outside of the house within close proximity of the tub? Thank you.

Re: hot tub wiring

How many amps is your tub and does it pull off both phases? Is there an electric heater and pump(s)? Any lighting? Is there a "panel" on the tub skid already or is there a remote equipment skid? What's the total load? Is there any onboard GFCI protection already?

Re: hot tub wiring

I am pulling from memory, I am discussing an old installation on a house already sold and tub removed. I wanted to determine if it had been done correctly. I believe it was a 30 amp GFCI, definitely pulled off both phases, it had an electric heater, pump, lighting, and the control panel was on the tub skid. There was not on-board GFCI protection. I do not remember total load. Thanks.

Re: hot tub wiring

Thank you Ryan. That is what I thought. It may have been 4 or 5 phase power, Benny, as I said, I am pulling from memory.

I apologize if I offended anyone. This is a technical forum, by and for experienced persons. Correct terminology is important for clear understanding of a topic. Being corrected is a given in this media.

Again I am sorry, no offense intended.
