I know that 680 states that hot tub need to be wired according to parts 1 & 2.
But if the hot tub has low voltage lights or led lights why does a insultated ground need to run all the way to the main panel in conduit.
These light do not come in contact with water.

Re: hot tubs

look at 680.42(c). also 680.43 in the beginning paragraph, would allow the same wiring methods. according to these, you would not neccesarily have to use a raceway.

Re: hot tubs

The electrical inspector states that it has to be in pipe all the way back to the main panel. His reason is since it has lights that it fall under pool wiring and there are no exceptions.

680.42(c) says that wiring to an underwater light shall comply with 680.23 or 680.33. if it falls under 680.33, I do not see any mention of raceway in that section. Then it would seem to me you could use a cable assembly to feed the disconnect. But I could be wrong (would not be the first time).

680.23 underwater luminaries. 680.23(F)branch curcuit wiring.
You are wiring a self contained unit, not a branch circuit to a light. If the manufacturer doesn't specify pipe then you don't have to use pipe.
