Hot Tubs...

Ok,
We do a fair amount of hot tubs for a local company in Colorado Springs. I just had an inspector fail me for something that I have passed several times before.

Situation: Hot Tub is outside, near the house. We bond the metal window frames and the down spout. We install the hot tub disconnect between 5 & 10'. We install a GFCI protected receptacle at the location of the disconnect.

The inspector said that the outlet needs to be greater than 10' away from the hot tub... so, we failed... (I passed one yesterday... I don't understand!)

I am searching up and down 680 IV and I cannot find this. If the hot tub is indoor, the outlet HAS to be LESS than 10'...

Any suggestions?

Oh, we upgraded the service to 200A and he nailed me for pulling all this (Hot Tub and Service) on 1 permit too... He says they want 2 permits...

Section IV of 680 is for Spas & Tubs. Art.680.42 is for outdoor installations which says you must install with the provision of I and II.

Art. 680.22 (A)(2) is where you need to look.
