Our manufacturing plant is pushing no hot work unless a permit is issued . We have a lot of different equipment thru out the plant and they started pushing the permits for the technicians that work on CNC machines as sometimes they have to get inside them to troubleshoot sections . Being a electrician most of the time when I get a WO it involves troubleshooting the electrical part of equipment , ovens , test stands , etc , not CNC machines . I told my manager that we need to have a hot work permit that covers general troubleshooting for a period of time ( 1 month ) . As it stands now if I get a work order to look at a piece of equipment I can look at it say it looks like no power then go back and get a hot work permit to troubleshoot it . Almost every WO for a electrician means your're working something hot to verify power . Wondered how other plants are dealing with something like this ???
