Governed under article 440 or 422? Air conditioning equipment or appliance.? Trying to determine rules for disconnecting means. 277 V. Thanks.

277 volt PTAC units must have an optional receptacle sub base from the manufacturer to plug the unit into. The building wiring connects to the sub base. You can not have a standard 277 volt receptacle next to the unit.

No. There‘s not one outside the unit. I have not opened one up yet. Just wanted to verify if disconnecting means would have a plug in the unit or if it would be permitted to be a breaker lock.

These are normally cord and plug. Not sure I have ever seen a PTAC that is not cord and plug. The key is for 277 volt to meet NEC you must use the sub base. The recep. in the sub base is your disconnect.

Thank y’all for the heads up.

All the ones I have seen are cord and plug.

The chassis slides into and out of the wall sleeve. So if one goes bad you don't fix it in the space, pull it slide the spare unit in the old one goes to the shop to get fixed

I was able to put my eyes on it today. As all of y’all referenced, it was cord and plug connected with the receptacle inside of it. Thanks for all the help.
