PORT CHARLOTTE -- Though the house at 23279 McQuade Ave. made it through Hurricane Charley with relatively little damage, it could not stand up to a fire that tore through it around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Homeowner Jean Jacinthe awakened to the smell of smoke coming from his kitchen. When he went to investigate, the kitchen was already on fire, he said.

Jacinthe attempted to extinguish the flames himself, first with a fire extinguisher, which proved to be empty, then with a garden hose, to no avail.

He then called 9-1-1. Charlotte County Fire & EMS firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames, but not before the majority of the house and everything inside had been burned or severely damaged by smoke, said Fire & EMS spokeswoman Dee Hawkins.

Fire officials believe the blaze was strictly electrical in nature.

Re: House Fire

That really only presents questions.

Fire officials believe the blaze was strictly electrical in nature.
Clearly there's no intention of sharing any useful information here.

Lightning?

I've always been sceptikal of fire guys who can look at still smoldering ashes and announce their nearly super natural determination of the cause. That must be one heck of a gift.

Re: House Fire

I once heard of a barn in Colorado that was destroyed by an "electrical fire". After the investigation, they found out that there was no power in the barn and it was spontaneous combustion. This story was by word of mouth so take it with a grain of salt. :D

Re: House Fire

Corruption finds it's way into everything. Unfortunately when there is no answer, they figure no one understands electricity anyway, and you can't see it so we can blame it on that and of course the electricians that didn't run the power to the barn to provide cooling so there wouldn't be the possibility of spontaneous combustion. See our fault.

Re: House Fire

And greed. Same as a lot of things, don't care who pay's the money to repair it just as long as it's not the poor insurance company that has been collecting money to cover accidents all along. Don't get me wrong I'm not against insurance companies, and the amount of insurance fraud is another problem but there seems to be always the first question when something happens. Who is at fault, and we have to find someone who is at fault because with all the codes and research that said insurance company does somebody must of been negligent especially if there was an accident. Oh Boy am I dizzy.

Re: House Fire

is it just me? most insurance investigators couldn't find a fire source if they tripped over it!!! i don't volunteer anything -- if they ask i will tell them my honest oppinion---but they are always "tooooo smart" to ask!!!

Re: House Fire

Not just you charlie. I like the one's that ask and you explain it to them, then that can't be the cause because they didn't come up with it, and they'll come up with some off the wall thing and make it sound logical to someone that doesn't know anything about electricity anyway, like a reporter or something.

Re: House Fire

one office tower fire was originally caused by a roof leak that caused the bus duct to blow up! but then there was three feet of the bus duct missing---burnt up ---gone ---ashes???? why didn't the fuse blow?? well, the fuse did blow, but the manufacturer had built the gear with both line and load phases of "b" phase together and then slid a piece of "fish paper" between them to isolate them.... this was fine until water from an activated sprinkler head on the seventh floor to run down the bus duct and into the switchgear. this bus was now grounded and the water allowed the 480 volt 4000 amp gear to blow through the "fish paper" and now you had the vault feeding the grounded bus duct(bypassing the fuses and the main switch). thats why three feet of it was missing!!! three inspectors from travelers insurance spent a week taking pictures and writing reports --- did they ever find the problem in the gear--------no! did they ever ask us our thoughts-----------no!

Re: House Fire

I have been on many fire jobs, about half i believed what i was told. Some were just not believable ,like lightning hit a recess can in the hall.No shatter trusses ;) Maybe just wanted a faster settlement than going after electrician. Then again i seen one that clearly lightning had went thru a second floor bedroom window leaving a hole and tour it up as well as start fire.
