In Europe the voltage is now standardized at 400Y/231 in the same manner that we went from 220/110 to 230/115 and finally 240/120 for our residential voltage. A lot of people who are out of touch with the electrical industry will talk about 110 or 220 volts instead of 120 and 240 volts. What was interesting to me was that I could plug adapters and a few other things directly into the 230 volt receptacles with an adapter and would work fine. It seems that most (all?) adapters are rated for the higher voltage. :smile:SEO said:When I was in Germany (1969-1971) the voltage was 380Y220. Has it changed?

Thanks Charlie that explains a lot. I've been seeing German equipment being installed in factories that is 400 volts. Kind of dates me. :smile:charlie said:In Europe the voltage is now standardized at 400Y/231 in the same manner that we went from 220/110 to 230/115 and finally 240/120 for our residential voltage. Could be smaller than yours, just because it is there doesn't mean that you use the capacity. I am also betting that the serving electric utility didn't put in a larger transformer that a 75 kVA. :smile:wireguru said:friend . . . I would hate to see his electric bill . . .
