Hello,

Can someone let me know if a house in Palentine, ILL. built in the 70's would have used EMT to wire devices? I know Chicago had that requirement and wonder if that could be said here.

The question was brought up to me yesterday and I thought of the the Mike Holt site. If the EMT was used it would be easier to replace the aluminum conductors that I have been told are in the house. Any information would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I don't know if that suburb had a "pipe" code, but if it is in EMT, it is not real likely that it is aluminum, however we did a project doing just that in 1975. New alloy aluminum in 10 and 12 AWG with CO/ALR devices.

We did the service on that project as well as others done in copper in the same time frame and there were no more issues with the aluminum than with the copper. The alloy aluminum in the small sizes was only available for a couple of years in that time frame as the problems with the old aluminum kept people from using aluminum in the 10 and 12 AWG sizes.

Hi Don,

Did you also use any cable with aluminum conductors during the 70's? Thanks
JB
Never really installed any cable wiring methods in my 40+ years, other than some copper NM in my own house and some larger copper MC cable for some industrial work....probably installed less than a total of 10,000' of cable over the years.

Northern Illinois was pretty much the "land of pipe and wire" :D
