How close can gas line be to panel box or meterbase? The only thing I am finding is normal working distance.

Electrical equipment must have working space that is 30" wide and 36" deep.
In that scenario, the gas line could be outside the left edge of the panel box or meterbase I believe. As long as there is 30" of free space to the right.

Nothing in nec I am aware. Only thing I remember are in 250.xxx ( don’t remember the correct number)for bonding gas line.
And yes you are correct on the working clearance.

Gas company installation rules is where you want to check, and if it is a service lateral check with the poco in your area. Where I live they want 3 feet separation from any gas pipe to service lateral conduit. But it's not an NEC concern.

The gas meter and pressure regulator vent, is a bigger concern than the piping. Check with your local gas utility for their clearance requirements.
