The open splice is the most immediate hazard, but if located away from any flamables or people, then it would be the fan, because of where they are installed, either over a bed, dinning table or any other place of routine occupancy. The bad neighborhood is only a potential, and one time deal makes it lower odds. The fan will come down eventually. Thats my bet.

I have 5 ceiling fans hanging from standard boxes in my house. 1 is over the dining table, 1 is over my bed. Been there for 17 years. Not even a wobble.

The bad hood in Tampa is more than just a potential, it is almost a garranty at 2 am that you will have a problem.The fan would be number 2 to the hood. :wink: Either one will get you cut.

I find that while walking through the bad neighborhoods, it's usually a safe bet to start mumbling and talking to yourself in incomplete sentences.

Speaking of which, I just got done with a job in downtown Seattle working on the original Skid Row (Yessler). WOWSA! Feces on the sidewalk, urine stench and having to kick people out of the doorway who are sleeping just to enter the place. My partner had to call the cops to have a couple of dudes who were getting it on while leaning against his van. I'm hoping I don't have to return for some time.

I guess I'd rather run into an open splice or a ceiling fan on a regular box any day than have to deal with that place.
