How do you prefer sizing your cable when you have a frame breaker with a small trip sensor setting?

This is an optional type question. How do you like to typically size your cable when you have an example of a 150A frame breaker with a sensor trip at 100A. Do you size your cable per the frame or do you usually do per the trip? I like to do per frame but i get pushback sometimes to do per sensor.

Unless there are other factors involved like voltage drop compensation IMO sizing the conductors to the frame size is a waste of money.

I agree with you. But sometimes you have electronic type breakers settings and/or replaceable plugin breakers that might get changed in the future. and it worries me that they do that without changing the cable size.

Of course anything can happen in the future but IMO that's no a good enough reason to waste money now. It's like putting 225 amps fuses in a 400 amp disconnect switch. Anyone can change them in the future but you still would not try to idiot proof the installation by using 400 amp conductors for a 225 amp feeder.

Just about any breaker could easily be changed to a larger size. Can't brother in law proof things, don't even try, they are very clever and will find a way!
