how many cables through a ko ?

My rule for nail-on boxes is that I put as many cables into a knockout that fit without damaging the insulation. Usually that's 2 - 2/C cables.

Something I caught on a Arlington advertisement,
if your talking about those I call them "black buttons" nm-b connectors I see they have come out with a new connector listed for two cables but I honestly never seen the listing for how many cables could be put through their original connector maybe it is just one. IDK

Well these aren't standard nail-ons, so it's not a KO and the whole thing that makes these special is that they have integrated NM cable connectors built-in to the boxes that seal against the cables to prevent air flow. So given that, I would be surprised if that works with more than one NM cable per connector, because if you stuff 2 or 3 NM cables through one hole, there would be gaps between them that this thing couldn't seal around.

I think it actually is a KO. From what I can tell, it has a 1/2" KO with an Arlington 1/2" black button installed. Then there's a gasket over the top of that.

The black buttons are "listed for single or multiple cables" according to their spec sheet:

That would make me believe that you could put multiple cables through each opening in the box. As far as air infiltration goes, the insulators run around with a can of spray foam and foam all our drilled holes in the top and bottom plates and all the openings in our boxes nowadays anyway. Those gaskets are gonna be covered in foam so it doesn't matter how many cables go through them. I don't see any issue with putting two cables into an opening. Maybe even three if it doesn't damage the jacket.

The connector that you install in the KO will determine the number and size of the cable(s). Not sure why you mentioned 9 conductors?

I don't think that hole takes a connector with that gasket around it...........?? think it just sticks in there ??

9? don't know,
