How many engineers . . .

Thanks everyone. There are 3 of these things in the kitchen and 5 in the hallway. Since I can no longer do ladders and wouldn't care to hand this task to my grandson, I will live with what I have until the next time I need to hire an electrician. That could be for a kitchen remodel in the next year or two.

These can light retrofit are available from most big box and on line. Most now are adjustable color and lumens.

I just replaced 5 incandescent spots with these. They are nice and now I don't have to worry about the original cans and trims not being IC protected. These trims are IC rated.
I say IC rated I mean they are acceptable for installation in or near insulation.
I just had 10 inches blown into the ceiling where they are.

I know this is a taboo answer but a good handyman would have no trouble installing those retrofit kits.
