I have a 400 amp service mounted on a pole where an overhead service from utility company ties in . There are 2 200 ampp breakers installed to feed 2 200 amp subs on the house 50 ' away. is this Legal?
225.30 (B) (2) - A single building sufficiently large to make two or more supplies necessary.
must hit a ct first maybe?I have seen many houses with 2-200 panels
In most areas here they allow us to mount a 320 on a pole hit the house with the 400 amp SEC's undergroung or overhead, to a tap box outside, then to two 200 amp disco's or main breaker panels just inside. in the other places thay will make us install a 400 amp disco on the pole.

The location of the service disconnecting means has an impact.
Yes i agree, but to what extent. If the service disconnects are on the buiding, no problem. If they are mounted on a pedestal or pole 2' away from the building, does it become a 225.30 issue? If they are mounted on a pedestal or pole 50' away, is it the same as 2' away.

The service disconnecting means has to have overcurrent protection with it unless it is a site-isolating device for a farmstead. :smile:IMO if the service disconnect is at the pole then whatever conductors leave it are feeders regardless of it being 1' or 1000'.
