How many Stories from 1 Panel

A single family house I'm working on has 3 stories & a basement.

I'm putting the panel in the basement.

My question is... how many stories can an electrician typically wire above from one panel before needing to add another panel?
In this case, with panel in the basement, can they wire 3 floors above with no problem?

Sure. But a sub panel(s) would make things more convenient for you and the owner.

You could use a single panel in the basement but as Hal said a sub-panel or two is a better design.

With all the afci breakers that are required I would add a small 60 amp panel on each floor level. It will almost be a wash in cost.
