Here is what is left of a crimp connector from a neutral line of a 60 amp residential service. The load side slipped out of the connector when I was cutting this down. To make matters even more dicey, the panel was a FPE! Moral of the story, make sure your crimps are done correctly!

Re: How much current through the neutral?

Usually only the utility uses the crimps in my area. Was this done by the utility or an electrician?

Re: How much current through the neutral?

I think this was done the POCO (Jersey Central Power & Light) in this part of NJ.

Re: How much current through the neutral?

It looks like this sleeve has 3 crimps done with an 'O' die, and it should have 5 crimps with a 'BG' die if memory serves.

Re: How much current through the neutral?

I wonder if there was a low voltage situation as well. Losing the neutral can send the line voltage all over the place. Not sure what the temp spec is for that crimp but a significant amount of heat was generated.
