Install new dedicated 20A circuit in finished basement Family Room with 20A GFCI - length for HR approx. 50' from panel. Back of wall is accessible - would use existing Romex, disconnecting from present circuit, buttoning up existing circuit, and then feed existing box with new 12/2. Install new 20A GFCI and cover.

Install new dedicated 15A HR (approx. 80') to series of 15A wall outlets - two of which are exposed (they are accessible on back side of Family Room wall as the backside is open to the unfinished basement), and would feed with new 14/2 Romex. Three other outlets would use existing wire (assuming ground it installed - some wiring in house on other circuits has been found to contain the older Romex with no EGC). Have to pick up a common point and feed these three (3) receptacles of new circuit (present installation happens to be fed with a 20A breaker, and when checking the existing wiring, noted cicuit only had 14/2 run to panel as well as feeding each receptacle.

Note: Drilling floor joists for new HR's is part of the incurred work.

Now - having that price, let's make an additional assumption, and that is you discover no EGC in existing installed ROmex, so you have to work a GFCI in to accomadate these receptacles with no EGC.

I want to see if I'm "in the ball park" on my pricing.
Thanks,

Dave

It all depends on your situation. I do little jobs like this by myself and don't bother with a helper. I don't like to work very hard. Flat Rate Price? $650 does sound about right. If I can make $500 for a half day of easy Labor I'm happy ( this should leave room for a slight mark-up on materials ).

If I had a very high over head then this may not be very good at all.

I noticed the other night that a company near me gave a flat rate price of $300 to change out 2 ea. GFCI receptacles and 2 ea. dimmers ( materials furnished by homeowner ). The job took one hour of labor and I charged $162.50 ( minimum service charge). The job was about 3 miles travel for both myself and the other service contractor but they have higher over-head. If the homeowner had agreed to the $300 price tage the service tech. would have made a good commision. The way it turned out he got a $30 show up fee. It's a crap shoot, that's the way I see it. Some of the time it's better to take the bird in the hand and not go after the bird in the tree.
