I have enough time in but my previous employer will only give me credit for
320 hours when I really have over 2,000. Should I fight him at the state level or is there some other way.

If this employer was paying you above the table, there should be W-2 records of your employment. Also, do you have any pay stubs? I imagine the state would accept those records as evidence of hours worked.

Why is he being problematic? Did you not part on good terms? Or is he afraid you are going to become his competition, so he's doing what he can to keep you from getting licensed?

Well, here we can verify for a friend or co-worker.

Example:

My buddy's son worked for almost 5 years for another EC. He came to work for me and I encouraged him to verify his hour and apply for the journeyman's exam. The guy is mad that I "stole" his employee and won't sign the affidavit. No problem. I singed it, stating that he worked for the other guy, but that I was aware of his abilities. He also had a journeyman friend that worked with him for a while, that has since moved on, to sign.

As of yet, we haven't received the application back. But, from what I understand, it should be approved.

When I went for my EC lic. here in NJ, I had a former employer not want to sign off for me. I submitted my W-2's and that was that....except for the test, the lic. fees, etc :)

Your last resort couold be a call to an attorney. They will write a letter to former employer demanding that your hours be made available. What this means is the employer doesn't necessarily sign off, he just provides the hours. He will undoubtably contact his attorney.

My former boss had this happen. Problem was the peanut asking for the hours never asked him. He went straight for the attorney and turned this in to a conflict. My boss provided him with his hours. All the peanut had to do was ask.
My boss called his attorney and said to get him on the phone and ask for the hours. It took 3-4 weeks for the guy to call. As soon as he called, my boss said your hours are in an envelope in the office. Come and get them.

My boss said the guy had left on neutral terms. It was the fact that he did not ask, instead used an attorney, that my boss made him ask.

Good luck!

Yep Tim, I thought about that very thing. I should have tried to call the guy myself and see if he was indeed mad, or if this peanut (I like that handle) just had his own issues.

I worked for a man for 4 years and he also didn't want to sign but in GA all I had to do was get 3 ref and 1 that was a lic electrician and all was well.
I now have a class 1 GA and still with the same man for now until I can build my own customer base
