The only apprenticeships I am aware of in NJ are Union based: IBEW.

I was watching the Soprano's the other night and a guy got a shovel to the back of the head for mowing lawns on the wrong street. Are you sure you want to work "down there"? :D

You need to get out more, the non union programs have been around as long as the union programs, all our electricians, have completed a non union apprentices program, as well as, many other new jersey non union contractors.

..i just wanted to know if work is thriving or dieing in the northern part of new jersey.
Soon to be chock full o' work...have a little read over here ~> http://newyork.construction.com/
(Covers major works in NY, NJ and CT)

It's been a good year for me, but NJ always seems to be steady in the work area no matter what happens in the economy IMO.There are plenty of jobs here for the "willing" just watch out for Paulie Walnuts with that dang shovel...

I don't believe you'll find the info you're looking for at http://www.njeca.org/. The vast majority of contractors that belong to this organization have 10 employees or less. I'm a member and I don't recall ever seeing anything about apprenticeship programs on their site. Then again, I haven't visited it since they redesigned it. Anyway, there are always electrical contractors looking for help. You have to be lucky enough to get into a large shop where they have an established apprenticeship program. If you end up working for a small contractor (like myself) chances are you'll get some good experiences doing work in both residential and commercial areas but the only apprenticeship you'll get is on-the-job training. Now again, depending on the contractor you end up working for, you may learn to do things right and you may not. For example, one contractor may teach you how to bend conduit with an EMT bender while another may leave you on a job by yourself where you end up using pre-fabricated elbows and fittings. One job will look like it was done by a professional and the other like it was done by a plumber.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that if you're going to make a move down here do some research into the companies you are considering working for before you sign on.

well, to help spread the fountain of potential misinformation...I believe the the NJECA was/is the local chapter of the IEC (Independent Electrical Contractors) and also their apprenticeship program.

However, anything large in North Jersey, is probably not being done by an IEC company.
