HPS Bulb Ballast Life

What affect does:
1. Installing a lower wattage HPS bulb in fixture (with a higher wattage HPS ballast) ?
2. Installing a higher wattage HPS bulb in fixture (with a lower wattage HPS ballast) ?

I assume it reduces both bulb and ballast life, but, how much? Any acceptable guidelines published?

I would check the big manuf. sites or directly e-mail them and ask those questions of them. I would concur with your assumptions without knowing the exact answer to give you. I believe Advance published something that said as an HPS lamp ages, the voltage requirement changes..........could be a factor.
