Has anyone had a ceiling fan, no light kit, click when a wall switch speed control is installed? :-?

The fan did have a rotary style speed control and the fan hummed, new control now I have a click.

Thanks

what brand? Hum at fan and click at fan? or hum and click at the switch? or hum at fan and click at switch? Just kidding what kind of fan and brand of switch?

A variable speed control will make the fan hum. I am assuming you used a selector speed control, ie 3 or 4 speed not variable. If that is the case the hum will disappear and I will guess the clicking was there but you could not hear it over the hum.

There is a brand of fans out there (older) That you have to use only there brand of variable speed controller. For the life of me I can't remember the brand although I run into them a lot. I have one in the garage as soon as this storm passes I will venture out and see.

I did this Service Run between jobs so I did not have much time on the job. The HO said they could live with fan as is, there was one speed where the fan did not click, until I could make it back by to investigate.

Just received a call from the HO and I was told that the Fan has a REMOTE CONTROL. So my thought is that the two controls are in conflict.

I'm going to try to get by and take out one or the other of the controls.
