maybe one of you guys can answer this. I gutted a town house and found 13 romex cables 12/2 in a 2 inch green field changed over to a 2 inch aluminum pipe for lighting to the rooftop. Is this even legal ?

The flex would be causing the cables to be bundled together.

You would have to apply 310.15(B)(2)(a) to the conductors contained in the flex. So 12 AWG conductors, after derating, may only be permitted to be supplied by a 15A breaker.

JBF3, Does the 2" penatrate the roof, does it end up 'outside' with romex

still inside it? It would be a violation to have romex sleeved in IMC in a wet

location.

yeah it goes from 2" greenfield and changes over to aluminum 2" and the pipe penetrates onto the roof
