Ok, I have a HV-2(heating &ventilation unit) that shows a 3p/60a disco on the floor plans. I am looking at the schedule on the mechanical drawings and under the electrical info for that unit it says "starter type" VFD. Can you have a disco and a VFD for a unit like this or would it be one or the other?

Thanks.

What about a VFD that's rated as a means of disconnect?

Yes the VFD was in sight of the Breaker that controlled it.

Article 430.102 Exception (B)

Some times I seen the mech supply the VFD on bigger projects...just depends

Ok, just got into work and will look at my code book. Most of the time VFD's are furnished by mech and installed by us. Yes, I would assume if the VFD is not a means of disconnect then I need a disco separate from the VFD. Thanks guys for the code reference.

Ok, so I assume the "controller" they refer to in 430.102 id either a starter, vfd etc. They also mention "controller disconnect means". That is a disconnect switch correct? A VFD can't act as a disconnect as well, right? According to 430.103 is seems like it is separate but can be in the same enclosure. Thanks. I think I should read the code book more. I bought the 2008, tabbed it and everything but RARELY use it.
